The dangers of being closed minded

Nature wants human beings to be fluid and dynamic creatures and requires that humans adapt to their surroundings. That is how evolution has begun- when single cellular organisms started adapting to the given conditions and converted to become multi-cellular and so on. When nature itself has presented us with this magical ability of evolution and wild wolves could adapt to become domesticated dogs, why is the 21st-century human becoming ignorant and closed-minded?

The threats of a closed mind are precarious to every aspect of human life, including relationships and personality. The closed-minded individual would have grown up without exposure to different cultures and has a flawed or limited understanding of current information. They don’t want their ideas challenged. They are typically frustrated that they can’t get the other person to agree with them instead of curious as to why the other person disagrees. In short, they are on the wrong side of right.

While open-minded people ask genuine questions, closed-minded people give statements and expect you to stick to their self-made rules. I guess you could call it a typical politician behavior where the political party is always trying to call out on the other party and make statements about them rather than openly questioning them- but this is their job and not required in real life.

When did we become so incredibly closed-minded? Every religion believes what they preach is the right idea, and every religion or caste system (in India) believes that ‘their caste’ is the greatest — Why? What is great about a certain label or religion? If man did not migrate during famine, wars, and floods, we would have become extinct so long back. When the early man had enough sense to be open-minded about exploring foreign lands and adapting to different cultures, why did the 21st-century man become so naive? And when did this happen? We let religion and politics fool our belief system and became so oppressed with our regressive thoughts and behavior. People have experienced this over time with every day of their life, including patriarchy, cultural and political aspects. Politicians in India have used this social conditioning to drive people against each other as early as British times and used religion to tame people’s individuality. It is happening all over the world, including China and the USA. On May 19, 2021, Governor Greg Abbot signed Texas Senate Bill 8 of the 87th legislature. This bill will prohibit abortions once a fetal “heartbeat” is detectable, which often occurs before a woman knows she is pregnant. We still have limited LGBTQ+ laws in India and so many other parts of the world, and humanity forgets that the world thrived only by being open-minded and adaptable to each other’s needs and nature.

Develop some empathy. Don’t form opinions and spread hatred- not in your life nor anyone else’s life. Everyone is different- they might want something which you do not need or desire. They might be good at something which you are not. Times are changing, but there is so much more the world needs to positively change. This pandemic is an eye-opener because unless every country worked with each other- we would still be suffering from mass deaths all over the world. When we do not object to the religion or caste of the donor blood that flows in us when we are on death bed, we might also be open-minded and caring towards people of different faiths, opinions, likes, and desires. Or we are bound to suffer. What you consider ‘Good and Bad’ are opinions and opinions are not valid form of judgement- just like the brain when you become closed minded.
